The National Railway Historical Society Inc. Cornhuskers Chapter in Lincoln, Nebraska is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, interpretation and celebration of the history and heritage of railway transportation. It was founded in 1965, and is one of the oldest and most active railway historical organizations in the United States.
The Cornhuskers Chapter is a local chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS). It is active in the Lincoln area and is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and heritage of rail transportation. The Chapter meets monthly and holds several programs and events throughout the year.
The Cornhuskers Chapter also operates a museum featuring a variety of railroad artifacts and memorabilia. The museum is housed in a historic railroad depot in downtown Lincoln, and is open for public viewing. The museum features a variety of exhibits, including historical photographs, documents, equipment and tools, as well as a number of model railroad layouts and interactive displays.
The Chapter also holds a number of special events throughout the year, including a popular annual Railfest in the summer. The event features a variety of entertainment and educational activities related to railroading, such as model railroading, rides on vintage train cars, and presentations on the history of railroads in Nebraska.
The Cornhuskers Chapter is committed to educating the public about the history of railways and raising awareness of the importance of rail transportation in the development of Lincoln and Nebraska. The Chapter also works with other local organizations to promote rail-related tourism and recreation.
