THOMAS P KENNARD HOUSE

The Thomas P Kennard House is a historic building in Lincoln, Nebraska. Built in 1869, it is the oldest surviving building in the city. The house is a two-story Italianate-style brick building with a hipped roof and bracketed eaves. It was designed by architect George A. Berlinghof and built for Thomas P. Kennard, the first Secretary of State of Nebraska.

The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 for its significance in local history. It is located at 1627 H Street in Lincoln, one block south of the state capitol building.

The exterior of the house is notable for its bracketed cornice and its double-hung windows with segmental arches. Inside, the house features original woodwork, including the ceiling of the entry hall, which is adorned with a pattern of stylized sunbursts. The original interior features such as the kitchen and parlors have been retained, and the house has been restored to its late-Victorian appearance.

The Thomas P Kennard House is owned by the Nebraska State Historical Society, and open to the public as a museum. It is one of the most important historic buildings in the city, and a symbol of the city's 19th century history.
