The Sigma Chi Building Foundation in Missoula, Montana, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and upkeep of the Sigma Chi fraternity house located at 610 Gerald Avenue. The fraternity house was built in 1929 and has been a landmark of the Missoula community ever since.

The foundation’s mission is to maintain the building’s historical and architectural integrity while providing a safe and comfortable living space for the fraternity brothers. The foundation achieves this by raising funds through donations and hosting events, such as the annual “Sigma Chi Derby Days” fundraiser.

The fraternity house, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, boasts a unique blend of Tudor and Gothic revival architectural styles. The building features a grand entrance hall, a spacious living room with a fireplace, a dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen. The house also has 20 bedrooms, which can accommodate up to 40 residents.

In addition to providing housing for the fraternity brothers, the Sigma Chi Building Foundation also supports community outreach programs and charitable endeavors. The foundation’s efforts have earned them recognition from the Sigma Chi International Fraternity as one of the top-performing chapters in the country. Overall, the Sigma Chi Building Foundation is a vital part of the Missoula community and a proud steward of its historic fraternity house.

It is native to most of North America, parts of Central America, Cuba, and the Cayman Islands, and is one of the few woodpecker species that migrate. Over 100 common names for the northern flicker are known, including yellowhammer (not to be confused with the Eurasian yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella)), clape, gaffer woodpecker, harry-wicket,[2] heigh-ho, wake-up, walk-up, wick-up, yarrup, and gawker bird. Many of these names derive from attempts to imitate some of its calls. It is the state bird of Alabama (known by its colloquial name "yellowhammer").[3]
