The Western Montana Genealogical Society (WMGS) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1976 and is located in Missoula, Montana. The mission of WMGS is to collect and preserve genealogical records and to promote the study of family history. The Society is dedicated to serving the genealogical and historical needs of the residents of western Montana and beyond.

WMGS houses a vast collection of genealogical records, including family histories, local histories, naturalization records, cemetery records, vital records, and more. The Society also publishes a quarterly journal, the Montana Ancestors, which contains articles about genealogical research and history in western Montana.

In addition to its collection of records, WMGS offers a variety of activities, programs, and services to its members and the public. These include lectures and workshops, genealogical and historical research assistance, and a library for members to use. The Society also hosts an annual genealogy conference, which offers classes and activities for genealogists of all levels.

WMGS is committed to providing access to its records to anyone interested in researching their family history. The Society is open to anyone interested in genealogy and welcomes new members. By joining WMGS, members gain access to the Society's collection of records and can participate in its activities.

Red-shafted Flicker Source: Wikipedia The northern flicker or common flicker (Colaptes auratus) is a medium-sized bird of the woodpecker family. It is native to most of North America, parts of Central America, Cuba, and the Cayman Islands, and is one of the few woodpecker species that migrate. Over 100 common names for the northern flicker are known, including yellowhammer (not to be confused with the Eurasian yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella)), clape, gaffer woodpecker, harry-wicket,[2] heigh-ho, wake-up, walk-up, wick-up, yarrup, and gawker bird. Many of these names derive from attempts to imitate some of its calls. It is the state bird of Alabama (known by its colloquial name "yellowhammer").[3]
