RICHEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

RICHEY, MT

Stipa comata var. intermedia This form is distinguished from typical needle and thread by its strait awns and inflorescence well exserted from the leaf sheath. The blackish awns and brownish hairs on the florets are reminiscent of Stipa spartea (and Stipa curtiseta). This population was the only one encountered in eastern Montana where Stipa comata var. comata predominates.
