The Stevensville Historical Society Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the community of Stevensville, Montana. It was founded in 1975 and its mission is to collect and preserve the artifacts, records, stories, and photos that tell the story of the people and places of Stevensville. The Society works to inform and educate the public about the history and culture of the area.
The Society operates an extensive museum and research library located in the historic Stevensville Opera House. Visitors to the museum can explore the history of the Town of Stevensville and the surrounding area through photographs, artifacts, documents, and maps. The museum also houses a research library and offers displays, lectures, and educational programs related to the history of Stevensville. The Society also maintains a collections of local newspapers, research materials, and oral histories.
The Stevensville Historical Society also works to preserve and maintain the historical sites in town including the Old Fort Owen, the Stevensville Historic District, and the Old Schoolhouse. The Society also works with the Stevensville Main Street Program to restore and maintain local buildings and other historic sites.
The work of the Stevensville Historical Society is funded through donations, grants, and fundraising events. The Society has an active membership, and volunteers are always welcome to help with the many projects and programs the Society offers.
