MUSEUM OF THE PLAINS INDIAN

BROWNING, MT

Mystical trees 2023 Waterton National Park (in the Canadian Rockies) is one of my favourite places on the planet. We were all dismayed when the wildfires roared through the park in 2017. I was reluctant to visit since then, fearing the loss of the mountain forest. Forest fires are important to the ecology, but they can be a bit sad too. (And amazing that almost all the buildings were saved).
.
But I had two opportunities to visit this year, one at the beginning of the summer, one at the end. The burnt standing trees, silvery white against the shadow of the mountain, caught my eye the first visit, but I missed the shot in the fleeting light.
.
So when last week, I was back up near the Crandell Mountain Campground (still closed) in the late afternoon, I caught the last of the sun on these trees.
.
Magical.
