The Marion County Historical Society in Hannibal, Missouri, is an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the county. Founded in 1950, the Society has been a leader in preserving the rich history of the area for over 70 years. The mission of the organization is to collect, preserve, interpret, and promote Marion County’s history and heritage.

The Marion County Historical Society operates out of the historic Stone House in Hannibal, which was built in the 1850s. The Society has an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, documents, and other historical items related to the county’s past. In addition, the Society hosts a variety of events, including educational programs, lectures, and special exhibits.

The Society also operates the Marion County Museum, which is located in the former Hannibal train depot. The museum offers exhibits and displays covering topics such as local history, military history, and transportation. The Society also maintains an archives room, which houses an extensive collection of photographs, maps, and other records related to Marion County.

The Marion County Historical Society is an important part of the Hannibal community and works hard to ensure that the county’s history is preserved and shared with the public. Through its museum, archives, and various programs and events, the Society provides an important resource for learning about the past.
