The Washington County Historical Society in Greenville, MS, is a non-profit organization that seeks to preserve the history of the county and its citizens. Founded in 1947, the Society’s mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the county’s history. Its members are actively involved in local and regional events, in addition to collecting and preserving documents, photographs, and artifacts. The Society houses a museum in its headquarters in Greenville that displays artifacts from the area’s past, ranging from Native American tools to Civil War-era weapons.

The Society is also active in the community. It sponsors educational programs and lectures, and hosts social events, such as a yearly picnic. It publishes a quarterly newsletter and maintains a website, which contains information about the organization’s activities and a library of historical documents, photographs, and other materials.

The Society’s headquarters are located in the historic Washington County Courthouse, which was built in 1858 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is open to the public, and visitors are welcome to explore its exhibits and collections. In addition, the Society offers tours of the courthouse and other historic sites in the county. The Washington County Historical Society serves as a reminder of the county’s past, and as a source of knowledge and education for both citizens and visitors.
