The Black History Gallery in McComb, Mississippi, is an interactive and educational experience dedicated to the history and culture of African-Americans. The gallery is located in the old McComb Library, which is now part of the National Park Service’s Natchez Trace Parkway. The gallery is divided into three sections. The first section is dedicated to the history of African-Americans in the state of Mississippi. It includes artifacts, photographs, and documents that highlight the struggles faced by African-Americans throughout the state’s history. The second section focuses on the contributions of African-Americans to the city of McComb, including prominent figures such as Dr. Charles E. Johnson, the first African-American mayor of the city. The third section is dedicated to the Civil Rights Movement and includes photographs, documents, and artifacts from the period. The gallery also offers educational programs and special events throughout the year. From educational lectures to docent-led tours, the Black History Gallery provides visitors with a unique and informative experience. The gallery is free and open to the public.
