MARINE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT PUBLIC AQUARIUM

The MARINE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT PUBLIC AQUARIUM in Costa Mesa, California is an educational facility dedicated to the conservation of aquatic life, as well as the promotion of oceanic and aquatic science. Located on the campus of Orange Coast College, the aquarium has been an integral part of the college's marine science department since its opening in 1967.

The aquarium houses a variety of aquatic species, including saltwater fish, invertebrates, sharks, and rays. Its three main exhibits are the Tide Pool touch tank, the Pacific Ocean tank, and the Shark Lagoon. The Tide Pool touch tank provides visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with a variety of animals like sea stars, crabs, and urchins. The Pacific Ocean tank is home to over 100 species of fish, while the Shark Lagoon is dedicated to larger species like stingrays and sand tiger sharks.

In addition to its exhibits, the aquarium also hosts educational programs, field trips, and public events. The public events include weekend dive shows, which feature the aquarium’s divers interacting with the animals, as well as the popular "Feeding Frenzy" show, which educates visitors on the feeding habits of the aquarium's inhabitants.

The MARINE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT PUBLIC AQUARIUM has become a popular destination in Costa Mesa, welcoming over 200,000 visitors each year.
