The Ernest C. Oberholtzer Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Excelsior, Minnesota. The foundation was established in 1977 to preserve and promote the legacy of Ernest Oberholtzer, a conservationist and wilderness advocate who played a key role in protecting the natural resources of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

The foundation's mission is to continue Oberholtzer's work by promoting environmental education, research, and advocacy. It operates the Ernest C. Oberholtzer Foundation Study Center, which houses a research library, archives, and exhibits related to Oberholtzer's life and work. The study center is open to the public by appointment.

Seasons of Ice A crazy winter this year that the ice can't quite make up its mind. Normally, in Minnesota the lakes are frozen solid by Christmas. This year, the official frozen time was Mid-January. We had some sub-zero temperatures a few weeks ago, but now it's 48 degrees F and the ice is thinning out and having pools of water floating on the top of ice.
