There's a reason we don't go into our basement more than necessary... Our house was built in the 1870s, and didn't have any basement at all in the beginning. over the years (before we moved in), a basement was added and extended in various ways, but it's still not a fun place to spend time. I literally wear a bike helmet when working in parts of it, because I know I'll smack my head into one of those cast iron pipes. 😢😲😢

Not really a dutch baby Dutch elm disease continues to chomp through the substantial number of elms here in Morris. Each year the city does a survey and marks diseased trees for the axe.

About a week ago I passed these two trees on a walk, both marked for removal. I then passed by a few days later and one was down, with the other probably scheduled for the next day.

No idea who put the doll there or why, but it clearly needed to have its picture taken.

A drop of water We finally got a *little* rain, but things are still pretty hot and parched. Nothing like the problems out west, but a challenge nonetheless. Happily our native plants (like these columbines) have largely held their own.

From an evening walk. Given the heat, a lot of our steps have been acquired at night after things have cooled down some. Here the streetlights created some nice colors coming through the leaves and shadows on the sidewalk.
