Fort Ridgely History Site is a historical landmark in Fairfax, Minnesota that was established in 1853 as a military outpost during the US-Dakota War of 1862. It served as a strategic location for the US Army to protect the settlers and the transportation routes. The fort was named after three American officers, Colonel James S. Ridgely, Captain Nathan B. Forrest, and Lieutenant John B. Sanborn.

The fort was attacked twice by the Dakota Indians, first on August 19, 1862, and then again on August 22, 1862. These attacks resulted in the death of 24 soldiers and civilians and led to the US-Dakota War. After the war ended, the site was abandoned and became a state park in 1911.

Today, Fort Ridgely History Site is a popular tourist destination that offers visitors a glimpse into the history of Minnesota during the Civil War and the US-Dakota War. The site features a museum that displays artifacts and exhibits related to the fort's history, including military uniforms, weapons, and tools. Visitors can also explore the fort's buildings, including the barracks, hospital, and commissary, and view the reconstructed stockade. The site also offers hiking trails, camping facilities, and picnic areas for visitors to enjoy.
