The Forty Mile Point Lighthouse Society Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the historic Forty Mile Point Light Station in Alpena, Michigan. Old Presque Isle Light From Wikipedia: "The Old Presque Isle Light was the first lighthouse in the Presque Isle, Michigan area, built in 1840, supported physically by two-thirds stone and one-third brick, and supported financially by funds appropriated by Congress two years earlier of $5,000. The tower and dwelling did not last long in the harsh weather, however, and by 1867 they were deteriorated enough for Congress to find need for a newer station." Alpena's Channel Light <i>Here's the October photo from my 2022 calendar for family and friends.</i> Seven years ago today my Flickr and Facebook friend Ted Fines was speaking at the library in Harrisville, Michigan, which was hosting an exhibition of his images. I figured this would be a good chance to finally meet him after many years of admiring his photos. <i>It was.</i> More: It would be my first real excursion in my then-brand-new Mustang. This would also be my first trip up Michigan's eastern shore (the locals call it the Sunrise Side). I'd spent the night in Tawas City, where I photographed <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jowo/49972706338/">a splendid sunset</a> and tried to photograph the remains of the dock at Alabaster. With time to waste in the morning I headed up M-23 and toured Oscoda, found the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jowo/22436859566/">Sturgeon Point Light</a>, and made my way to Alpena, where I took this photo. I also toured the state park in Harrisville, and liked it enough that Joan and I camped there the next summer. <i>Ted's talk was worth the trip. After that I chatted a bit with him, with his wife Chris, and with other attendees. Then I headed home. The new car did well, but I was beginning to figure out that Ford's navigation system was pretty frustrating.</i>
