The Aloha Historical Society is a non-profit organization based in Cheboygan, Michigan, dedicated to preserving the rich history of the Aloha area. We Went for a Walk This walk was taken eighteen years ago today.

We've often walked Cheboygan State Park's long beach along Lake Huron. Usually we follow the waterfront from the Poe's Reef cabin out to Cheboygan Point, then we return along the Green Trail which is also on the beach but skirts the trees. The full walk, including from our campsite to the beach and back, is five miles or so. and I've got to say it was easier when we were younger.

Besides the Lake and the Straits, the beach, and the skies, the beach walk offers two active light houses (Poe Reef and Fourteen Foot Shoal), the Mackinac Straits Bridge, Bois Blanc Island, the remains of long-abandoned Cheboygan Point Light, many birds (gulls, geese, and sand pipers--and often an eagle). Most times there's a freighter passing through.

It's a good walk..
