The Allendale Historical Society has been preserving the history and culture of the Allendale area since its founding in 1967. Located in Allendale, Michigan, the Society seeks to promote and encourage an appreciation of the area's past by preserving artifacts and documents that have been collected since the Society's founding. The Society currently owns and operates the Allendale Historical Museum, which houses a collection of artifacts that span more than 200 years of Allendale's history.

The museum houses a number of permanent exhibits including the Allendale Historical Society Collection, which contains a variety of artifacts, documents, photographs, and other historical items that illustrate the history of Allendale and the surrounding area. The museum also offers a variety of educational programs, such as lectures and workshops, which are designed to teach visitors about Allendale's history, culture, and traditions.

The Society also offers an extensive library of historical documents, books, photographs, and other resources for visitors to use in their research. The library contains a variety of local, state, and national historical publications as well as a collection of genealogical and local history resources. Wide views before branches fill with new leaves The days between snowmelt and leaves appearing is when the forest shows long views unobstructed by green and shadows. Days like today let the light fill the forest floor and the eye can wander freely far and wide, too. Potatoes in many colors and characteristics These days it is not uncommon to see heirloom and other kinds of potatoes than ones for baking or mashing or deep-frying. Red, orange, yellow, or purple add color and variety to the menu. From the wild forms of tuber in South America and the many domesticated specialty types created by Inka growers in the past and present, the vegetable have come a long way - a favorite food on all continents and maybe even on the international Space Station, too. Where words, music, rhythm, and pace all come together A few people have a taste for poetry, an ear for rhythm and linguistic texture and pattern, and an eye for poetic moments in the day or during a lifetime. But the majority come to love poetry by accident, by training, or decades after life's other distractions and preoccupations finally stop taking up one's attention. Only then does the music of words become audible. This photo from one of the city branch libraries announces that April (when Shakespeare is supposed to have been born) is National Poetry Month. Consonant with the theme of word pictures and sound delight, the drawers adjacent to the announcement sign are filled with CDs for borrowers to listen to, many of them filled with lyrics that can stand along as poetry, unaccompanied by a band or an orchestra.
