The David Sears House is a historic residence located in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. Built in 1839, the house is a three-story, brick townhouse with a slate mansard roof and decorative iron cresting. The exterior of the house is characterized by a symmetrical façade with a central entrance, as well as a dentillated cornice and low gable roof. The house was designed in the Italianate style, a popular architectural style of the mid 19th century.
The interior of the house is organized around a central entry hall and staircase, with the ground floor featuring a parlor, library, and dining room. The second floor has two bedrooms and a bathroom, while the third floor consists of two bedrooms and a sitting area. The house has remained mostly intact since its construction, retaining many of its original features, such as marble and wood mantels, as well as carved woodwork.
The David Sears House is architecturally significant as an excellent example of Italianate architecture, as well as a reminder of the residential development of the Back Bay neighborhood in the 19th century. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
