The Supreme Judicial Court Historical Society (SJCHS) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC). Founded in 2006 and located in Boston, MA, the SJCHS is the only organization of its kind in the nation.
The SJCHS works to increase public understanding of the SJC's role in the development of Massachusetts and United States law, and to honor those who have served on the court. The SJCHS offers educational programs and resources, including lectures, workshops, walking tours, and exhibits. It also publishes books and a quarterly newsletter, holds an annual meeting and lecture, and maintains a website and social media presence.
The SJCHS is governed by a Board of Trustees, which includes members of the legal community, historians, and other interested individuals. The Board is responsible for setting the organization’s policies and goals, creating and overseeing its programs and activities, and raising funds to support its mission.
The organization is supported by donations, membership fees, and grants from public and private sources. It is also supported by volunteers who donate their time and expertise to help with events and activities.
The SJCHS strives to make the history of the SJC and its influence on our laws and legal system more accessible to all. Through its efforts, it hopes to ensure that this important part of our history is preserved for future generations.
