The Ossorio Foundation in Amherst, Massachusetts, is a private non-profit organization dedicated to growing and preserving the legacy of contemporary artist Alfonso Ossorio. Ossorio was born in the Philippines and moved to the United States to attend Harvard University. His art career spanned over five decades and he was a prolific creator of paintings and sculptures, which ranged from abstract expressionism to assemblages.
The foundation was established in 2006 to create a permanent home for Ossorio’s artwork. It is located on a 23-acre property in Amherst and is home to a museum, gallery, and sculpture garden. The museum houses a collection of Ossorio’s work, including sculptures, paintings, and assemblages. The gallery is used for rotating exhibits of contemporary artwork, while the sculpture garden is home to many of his outdoor works. The foundation also offers educational programs, lectures, and workshops on topics related to Ossorio’s art and legacy.
The foundation is committed to preserving and expanding the legacy of Ossorio’s work and to helping create a greater understanding and appreciation for contemporary art. In addition to preserving and displaying the artist’s works, the foundation also offers internships to local high school and college students, as well as to members of the community. The foundation also works to provide educational opportunities for members of the Amherst community to learn more about contemporary art and Ossorio’s work.
