The Fitchburg Historical Society is a nonprofit organization located in Fitchburg, MA dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the history and culture of the city and its surrounding communities. Founded in 1868, the Society acquires, preserves, and makes available for study collections of documents, artifacts, and photographs related to the history of the city and its people. The Society also provides educational and public programming for the community, including lectures, workshops, and exhibits.

The Society’s main facility is the historic Fitchburg Historical Museum. Located in the heart of the city, the museum houses a collection of artifacts from Fitchburg and the surrounding communities. The museum also features several interactive exhibits, including a replica of an early 19th century general store, a model railroad, a replica of a hand-operated loom, and a Vermont farmers’ kitchen.

The Society also operates two other properties in the city: the Bemis House, a Victorian-era home, and the Rollstone Hill Museum, which offers exhibits on Fitchburg’s history, industry, and culture. The Society also organizes a variety of programs throughout the year, including reenactments, art exhibitions, and lectures. In addition, the Society sponsors several special events, such as the annual Fitchburg Heritage Festival, which celebrates the city’s past with music, food, and activities.
