USS POTOMAC

USS Potomac, also known as the "Floating White House," is a former United States Coast Guard cutter. Located at the Jack London Square in Oakland, California, it served as the presidential yacht of President Franklin Roosevelt from 1936 to 1945.

The USS Potomac was originally commissioned as the USCGC Electra in 1934 and served as a patrol vessel on the West Coast. It was officially transferred to the Navy in 1936 and re-designated USS Potomac. The ship was then converted into a presidential yacht and was often used by President Roosevelt for recreational purposes, such as fishing trips and sightseeing cruises.

The USS Potomac is 164 feet long and has a beam of 23 feet. It is powered by two diesel engines and has a top speed of 14 knots. The interior of the ship is decorated with art deco furnishings, including a spiral staircase and a grand piano.

Today, the USS Potomac is owned by the Port of Oakland and serves as a museum. Visitors can take a guided tour of the ship, which includes a visit to the President's cabin, the engine room, and the bridge. The ship is also available for private charters and special events.
