The Boston Athenaeum is a private library and museum located in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1807, it is one of the oldest independent libraries in the United States. The Athenaeum is housed in a majestic building completed in 1849 in the Italian Renaissance Revival style. The building is located at 10½ Beacon Street and is a National Historic Landmark.

The Athenaeum houses a collection of over half a million books, as well as a collection of art and artifacts. The library's special collections include rare books, manuscripts, prints, photographs, and maps. The museum's art collection includes works by John Singleton Copley, Gilbert Stuart, and other prominent American artists. The museum also contains artifacts from the Athenaeum's early days, including a rare first edition of the Declaration of Independence.
