Emily Dickinson’s homestead and the Evergreens in Amherst, Massachusetts, are a testament to the life and legacy of the renowned poet. The two properties are located on Main Street near the center of town, a few miles from the Amherst College campus. The homestead, also known as the Homestead Farm, was the home of Emily’s father, Edward Dickinson, and the family’s main residence from 1855 to 1882. The house has been restored to its original condition, featuring period furniture and artifacts from the era.

The Evergreens is located directly across the street from the homestead. It was the home of Emily’s brother, Austin, and his wife, Susan. The house was built in 1856 and is an example of the Italianate style of architecture. It has been restored and features period furniture and artifacts, as well as a collection of Emily Dickinson’s manuscripts. Both properties are open to the public and offer guided tours. Visitors can explore the gardens and grounds, as well as the interiors of the homes, giving them a glimpse into the life and times of Emily Dickinson.
