The South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, Massachusetts, is an educational and cultural center dedicated to promoting and celebrating the visual arts. Founded in 1954, the South Shore Art Center offers workshops, classes, and events for all ages throughout the year, as well as an array of exhibitions and art sales featuring works from local and national artists.
The South Shore Art Center is located in an historic red-brick building on the shores of Cohasset Harbor. The Center is made up of several galleries, including the Main Gallery, two smaller galleries, and the ‘Artists in Residence’ gallery. Additionally, the Center hosts a variety of lectures, classes and workshops in all media, from oil painting to blacksmithing.
The South Shore Art Center is open to the public and admission is free. The Center also offers a membership program which provides a variety of benefits, including discounts on classes, early access to exhibitions and sales, and invitations to private events.
The South Shore Art Center also offers a variety of outreach programs, such as the ‘Kids Create’ program, which brings art-making to local schools, and the ‘Outreach to the Elderly’ program, which works to bring art to senior centers and nursing homes.
In addition to its educational and cultural programming, the South Shore Art Center also serves as a space for community events and gatherings, such as weddings, receptions, and corporate events.
