The Columbia County Courthouse Restoration Project in Magnolia, Arkansas is an ongoing effort to restore and preserve an important landmark in the town’s history. The building, originally constructed in 1912, is located on the corner of Main Street and Columbia Avenue and is one of the oldest courthouses in the state.
The Columbia County Courthouse Restoration Project was initiated in 2004 and is a joint effort between the City of Magnolia, the Columbia County Historical Society, and the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. The goal of the project is to restore the building to its original grandeur, while also preserving its historic character.
In order to achieve this goal, the restoration process has included the repair and restoration of the building’s foundation, the installation of a new roof, and the replacement of the existing windows with historically accurate materials. The interior of the building has also been updated with modern amenities such as new lighting and modern heating and cooling systems.
In addition to the physical restoration of the building, the project has also included the installation of interpretive signage throughout the building, which tells the story of the courthouse and its importance to the community. The project is ongoing and is expected to be completed in the near future.
