Cecil Historical Trust Incorporated (CHT) is a non-profit organization located in Elkton, Maryland dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of Cecil County. CHT was formed in 1984 as a volunteer-run organization with the mission of preserving and interpreting the county’s history. The organization operates out of a renovated house, the Old Cecil County Courthouse, located in downtown Elkton.

CHT regularly hosts events and programs to engage the community in the county’s history. Events include lectures, workshops, and documentary screenings. The Trust also holds an annual History Day celebration every June, which features a parade, a reenactment of a Revolutionary War battle, and living history demonstrations.

The Trust is actively involved in preserving and promoting Cecil County’s historic sites. CHT has restored over a dozen properties, ranging from a one-room schoolhouse to a former inn. The Trust also works with local government to ensure the preservation of sites of historical importance.

CHT publishes a quarterly newsletter, the CHT News, and maintains a website with information about the Trust and its events. The Trust also operates a museum, which is open to the public, and an archive with a collection of documents and photographs related to the county’s history.

CHT is a powerful advocate for the preservation of Cecil County’s history and culture, and its mission of education and preservation has been embraced by the community. By promoting and celebrating the county’s past, CHT ensures that future generations will be able to appreciate and learn from Cecil County’s rich history.
