AMERICAN DIME MUSEUM

BALTIMORE, MD

Scant Time for Practice Due to cloudy and rainy weather, my wife, Leona, and I are finding scant time to practice our photography for the April 8 solar eclipse. We waited all day today to get a couple of photos at about 1749 EDT. Still, the Sun's disc in this photo is mottled by thin clouds. Canon EOS R5 w. 800mm Canon lens, on a SolarQuest solar finder and tracker, certified solar filter.

The American Dime Museum in Baltimore, Maryland was a popular tourist destination for over a century. It was originally opened in 1887 by Captain John T. Welsh and was one of the first museums in the United States to exhibit oddities and curiosities. The museum was located in the heart of the city and was filled with a vast collection of artifacts, oddities, and exhibits that were both educational and entertaining.

The museum was home to a variety of exhibits ranging from live human oddities, including bearded ladies and Siamese twins, to taxidermied animals, antique musical instruments, and rare coins. The museum also had a large collection of sideshow banners and posters, as well as antique arcade machines and games.

Over the years, the American Dime Museum underwent many changes and moved several times. In 2004, the museum was reopened in its final location in the Fells Point neighborhood of Baltimore. However, the museum closed its doors permanently in 2007 due to financial difficulties.

Today, the legacy of the American Dime Museum lives on through its collection of artifacts and exhibits, which are now part of the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. The museum's eclectic collection of oddities and curiosities continues to fascinate and inspire visitors from around the world.
