Francis Scott Key Bridge The Francis Scott Key Bridge, also known as the Outer Harbor Bridge or simply the Key Bridge, is a Steel Arch-Shaped Continuous Through Truss Bridge spanning the Patapsco River in Baltimore, Maryland.

The bridge was opened in March 1977. The span is 1,200 feet (366 m) long and carries an estimated 11.5 million vehicles annually.

It is part of the interstate system as I-695, an alternate to I-95. It has a toll of $4.00.

The photo was taken from the deck of the Carnival Pride.

At about 1:30am, Monday, March 26, 2024, a cargo ship hit the right center support, causing the three center spans to collapse onto the ship and into the river.

This is what that support looked like. Doesn't look like much to hold up such a large bridge.
