The Mount Desert Island Historical Society (MDIHS) is a non-profit organization located in Mount Desert, Maine. Founded in 1954, it is dedicated to preserving, researching, and promoting the history of Mount Desert Island. The MDIHS is housed in the Somesville Historical Museum, which was built in 1815.

The MDIHS has several programs and exhibits that are open to the public. These include the permanent exhibit, “The Story of Mount Desert Island,” which features over 200 objects, photographs, and artifacts related to the island’s history. The MDIHS also offers educational programs for adults and children, lectures and presentations, and seasonal events such as a summer music series.

The MDIHS also owns and manages several historic properties and sites. These include the Asticou Azalea Garden, the Thuya Garden, and the historic Somes-Meynell House. These sites provide visitors with the opportunity to learn about the history of the island and to explore its natural beauty.

The MDIHS is an active participant in the local community and works to promote a greater appreciation and understanding of the island’s history. Through its programs and activities, the MDIHS is able to provide a unique and valuable service to the Mount Desert community.

Norway's National Guard Normalerweise ist das Fotografieren der Spezialkräfte verboten, aber hier eine Vertreterin Norwegens Nationalgarde, die nur bei besonderen Anlässen zum Einsatz kommt .. wir wußten noch nicht warum .. ? Normally it is forbidden to take photos of the special forces, but here a representative of Norway's National Guard, which is only used on special occasions... we didn't know why...?
Norwegian WSF (Woman Special Forces) Aber nicht alle waren ausgelassen .. plötzlich tauchten vereinzelte Mitglieder der norwegischen WSF (Woman Special Forces) auf und beobachteten das Geschehen .. hier war offensichtlich etwas im Anmarsch .. But not everyone was left out... suddenly a few members of the Norwegian WSF (Woman Special Forces) appeared and observed what was happening.. something was obviously happening here..
