Friends of the Blaine House Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Augusta, Maine. Founded in 1983, the organization works to preserve and protect Blaine House, the official residence of the Governor of the State of Maine. WW&F Ry Engine 9 This was taken after we returned from our tour. The engine had just taken on water and is now preparing to shuttle the train cars into their shed and then it will be shut down for the night inside the engine shed. I tried to edit this in Lightroom and I am happy with the leaf colors. The foreground color is way to warm. Did you know you can do this edit of video in Lr? Lightroom (not classic) the cloud version has a much improved way to edit video compared to Lightroom Classic which I use. There are a number of instructional videos on editing in Lr Classic on line. WW&F Ry This recently re-established railway is now part of a museum that sponsors short excursions and other activities related to the railroad and is constantly being upgraded with the efforts of volunteers. The following is from the museum website. The WW&F Railway traces its roots to 1894 when the Wiscasset and Quebec Railroad constructed a two-foot “narrow” gauge railroad northward from the bustling wharves of Wiscasset. Far short of its international delusions of grandeur, the railway of “big dreams and little wheels” instead reached 50 miles into the heart of central Maine. Reorganized as the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington, the Railway served Maine’s Sheepscot Valley faithfully for the next 40 years before closing during the Great Depression. Brought back from extinction by a team of dedicated volunteers, today’s railway connects you with a Maine that has all but slipped away. Join us to experience authentic Maine. Engine Number Nine This past Saturday I spent about five hours or so riding this restored train. I like this photo because of the dark smoke and white steam as the engine is being readied to be coupled to the caboose, box car, and flat car that comprise the train. Also there is some nice fall color. The gentleman in the red and black shirt is installing what were once white flags one on either side of the engine. About 15 riders, mostly train buffs, were on this train. The building is the water tower used to fill the tanks of the locomotives. The Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway. The line was operated as a for-profit company from 1895 until 1933 between the Maine towns of Wiscasset, Albion, and Winslow, but was abandoned in 1936. Today, about three miles (4.8 km) of the track in the town of Alna has been rebuilt and is operated by the non-profit Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway Museum as a heritage railroad offering passenger excursion trains and hauling occasional cargo. Engine 9 was built by the Portland Company in Portland Maine as works number 622 completed on May 2, 1891and is a 0-4-4T Forney locomotive now owned and operated by the Wiscasset Waterville, and Farmingtone Railway, Alna, Maine. It was abandoned in about 1936 and has since been restored and is operational. [Wikipedia]
