Boone County Historical & Railroad Society Inc 211 West Rush in Harrison, Arkansas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of local history and railroad heritage. The mission of the Society is to collect, preserve, interpret and promote the cultural heritage of the Boone County region. The Society operates the Boone County Museum and the Boone County Railroad Museum in Harrison.
The Boone County Museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts and memorabilia that tell the history of the county, its people and its railroads. The museum displays a variety of exhibits ranging from Native American artifacts, to Civil War and early settlement artifacts, to a vast array of photographs, documents and artifacts from the county's railroad history.
The Boone County Railroad Museum houses a collection of artifacts from the railroad industry, including locomotives, cabooses, railroad cars, tools, and photographs. The displays tell the story of the development of the railroad industry in Boone County, from its beginnings in the late 1800s through its current use today.
The Society also offers educational programs and tours throughout the year, including tours of the museum and the railroad artifacts. The Society is also involved in a number of restoration projects, including the restoration of the historic Boone County Depot, which was built in the late 1800s.
The Boone County Historical & Railroad Society is committed to preserving the history and heritage of Boone County and its railroad industry, and serves as an important resource for researching and learning about the county's history.
