Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana and the second most populous city in the state, located on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. It is home to the Louisiana State University, one of the country’s largest universities. The city’s population is approximately 229,000, and the metropolitan area has a population of 829,000.
