Tangi Turtle Farm, Inc. is one of the oldest, if not the oldest active turtle farm in the world.

It was established in 1953 by Clarence and Ralph Boudreaux. It was then passed down to Keith Boudreaux who has now passed down to his son Johnathan Boudreaux. The fourth generation of turtle farmer.

Typically, eggs are gathered from the end of March thru mid-July. The eggs are washed, sanitized and placed into their incubators. As the eggs hatch, the turtles are separated into their like groups. They are placed in containers which are labeled and cleaned as needed.

During the highest production times, Tangi Turtle Farm, Inc., shipped 2.5 million baby turtles per year to their worldwide clients. Currently, they ship about 150.000 annually.

The USDA endorses the health certificates for export. At times, USDA Veterinarians have to endorse the certificates at the airport, as the health certificates have 24 hour signing requirements. They also do the Registered Aquaculture Export Facility, USDA, and State Inspections. Additionally, they collect the water samples and do Salmonella testing and then send those samples to the Lab so that the turtles can be exported. (USDA photo by Christophe Paul)
