20230131-RD-VHM-0434 U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD) Under Secretary Xochitl Torres Small meets with and announces $7 million in Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant funding in Rayville, LA on Jan 31, 2023. 
The meeting was attended by Town of Rayville Mayor Harry Lewis, former Congressman Rodney Alexander, Northeast Louisiana Regional Director Angie Robert, and representatives from the offices of State Representative Francis Thompson, U.S. Congresswoman Letlow, U.S. Senator Kennedy, and the Governor's Office. 
The Town of Rayville will use a $5 million Water and Waste Disposal Loan and a $2 million Water and Waste Disposal Grant to construct a new well due to aging water wells. This investment will also help the Town of Rayville upgrade the elevated water storage tank, replace distribution lines, and add radio read meters. This Rural Development funding will impact more than 3,695 people in Richland Parish.

The Ouachita African-American Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Monroe, Louisiana. It was established in 1981 with a mission to preserve, promote and celebrate the rich history and culture of African Americans in Ouachita Parish and the surrounding areas.

The Society houses a collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents that chronicle the experiences of African Americans in Ouachita Parish. These materials are used to educate and inform the community about the contributions and struggles of African Americans throughout history.

The Society hosts a variety of events and programs throughout the year, including lectures, exhibits, and cultural festivals. They also offer educational programs for students and teachers, providing an opportunity for them to learn about the history and culture of African Americans in Ouachita Parish.

The Society is run by a dedicated group of volunteers who are committed to preserving the rich history and culture of African Americans in the area. They work tirelessly to ensure that the stories of African Americans are not forgotten and that their contributions to the community are recognized and celebrated.
