The Historic Arkansas Museum (HAM) in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a museum dedicated to preserving and educating the public about the history and culture of the state of Arkansas. Established in 1941, the museum is housed in seven historic buildings built between 1827 and 1914, making it the oldest museum in the state. Other highlights include the Historic Arkansas Plantation Home, which was built in 1836 and showcases the lifestyles of antebellum Arkansas, and the Arkansas Made Learning Center, which offers hands-on educational activities for children and adults.
The museum also features a variety of temporary exhibits and events, such as the Arkansas Native American Heritage Celebration, which highlights the history and culture of the state’s tribes, and special programs like the Arkansas Foodways Symposium. Visitors can also take part in living history demonstrations, which include Civil War reenactments and blacksmithing workshops. The museum also offers guided tours of the historic buildings, as well as The Quapaw Quarter, an outdoor area that features a variety of sculptures and monuments.
The Historic Arkansas Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm. Admission is free for children under 12, and a nominal fee is charged for adults.
