The American Italian Renaissance was a cultural movement that took place in New Orleans, Louisiana in the early 20th century. This movement was characterized by a renewed interest in Italian culture, language, and heritage among Italian Americans in the city.

Throughout the Renaissance, Italian Americans in New Orleans sought to reclaim their cultural identity and celebrate their heritage. They established social clubs, organized parades and festivals, and opened businesses that served traditional Italian food and wine.

One of the most significant events of the American Italian Renaissance in New Orleans was the establishment of the St. Joseph's Altar. This annual celebration, which takes place on March 19th, honors the patron saint of Italy and is marked by the creation of elaborate altars filled with food, flowers, and religious icons.

The Renaissance also saw the rise of Italian American artists, writers, and musicians in New Orleans. These individuals sought to express their cultural identity through their creative work, and many went on to achieve national recognition.

Today, the legacy of the American Italian Renaissance can still be seen throughout New Orleans. Italian American cultural institutions, such as the American Italian Cultural Center and the Piazza d'Italia, continue to celebrate the rich heritage and traditions of this vibrant community.
