Oil spill removal organizations (OSRO) maintain stockpiles of dispersants to use to mitigate the impact of an oil spill. In this photo, the chemical dispersants are stored in totes in a warehouse that are ready to load onto aircraft or vessels to support response operations. The use of dispersants is a response tactic that helps to mitigate the impact of a spill. When dispersants are applied to a slick, they break up the oil into lots of small droplets. These tiny droplets have a high surface area-to-volume ratio, making them easier for oil-eating microbes to break them down (through the process of biodegradation). Dispersant application strategies are listed in the Oil Spill Response Plans maintained by offshore facility owners and operators. BSEE Preparedness Analysts from the Oil Spill Preparedness Division (OSPD) regularly inspect these plans and dispersant stockpiles and application equipment to ensure compliance with regulations and to monitor the overall vigor of the oil spill preparedness and response community.

The Chauvin Sculpture Garden is an outdoor art gallery located in Chauvin, Louisiana. The garden was established in 1991 by Dr. Wilton and Mrs. Winnie Chauvin, who wanted to share their love of art with the community. The garden is home to over 40 pieces of art, most of which are sculptures. The sculptures range from representational to abstract and are made from a variety of materials such as metal, wood, stone, and glass. The sculptures are set against a backdrop of mature trees, shrubs, and flower beds, creating a peaceful and tranquil environment.

The garden also includes a number of amenities, such as a gazebo, picnic tables, and benches. The garden is open to the public, and admission is free. During the summer months, the garden hosts a variety of events, such as concerts, art shows, and workshops. On occasion, the garden is also used as a venue for special events such as weddings and family reunions.

The fleet of aircraft are deployed by an oil spill removal organization (OSRO) to apply dispersants to an oil spill when directed. The aircraft have different functions - some spray the dispersants while others serve as spotters to monitor the effectiveness of the application. 20211213-ARS-LSC-2483 U.S. Department of Agriculture USDA Agricultural Research Service ARS Sugarcane Research Unit scientists developed and released a new high-fiber variety of sugarcane, or energy cane, Ho 06-9002, in Houma, LA, and continue their research on December 13, 2021. Sugarcane is one of the most efficient producers of biomass of all plant species and can be used as a renewable fuel. The new variety has a high fiber content, excellent regrowth ability over 4 to 5 years, is cold-tolerant, has a high stalk population, and produces excellent biomass yields. Ho 06-9002 showed no symptoms of brown rust or smut when exposed to high levels of natural inoculum. Mosaic disease, caused by either sugarcane mosaic virus or sorghum mosaic virus, was not observed in the variety under natural field conditions. Its most significant attribute is cold tolerance and the ability to yield high biomass in non-traditional sugarcane growing regions.
Here, samples from the test plots are immediatly weighed at the Sugarcane Research Unit in Ardoyne Farm, Houma, LA.
The ongoing studies are conducted in cooperation with the Department of Energy; university extensions, and industry organizations.

Here, fiber samples are the result of one kilo of sugar cane that has been ground down, weighted, pressed to extract the juice for collection, dried, and weighted to obtain a dry weight reading.
