Melrose Plantation is a historic estate located in Melrose, Louisiana. The property was originally built in 1796 by Marie Thérèse Coincoin, a former slave, and her partner Claude Thomas Pierre Métoyer. The plantation was eventually purchased by John Hampton Henry in 1884, who made significant renovations to the property.

Today, Melrose Plantation is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public for tours. The property features a variety of buildings, including the main house, several outbuildings, and the African House, which is believed to be the oldest surviving example of a building constructed by enslaved Africans in the United States.

Visitors to Melrose Plantation can explore the grounds, which include lush gardens and a pond, as well as the various buildings. The plantation is also home to an extensive collection of folk art, including works by renowned artist Clementine Hunter, who lived and worked on the property for many years.

In addition to its historical significance and cultural offerings, Melrose Plantation is also a popular venue for weddings and other events. With its picturesque setting and rich history, it remains one of the most iconic landmarks in the region.
