The Bell County Historical Society, located in Middlesboro, Kentucky, was founded in 1965 to preserve the history and culture of Bell County. The Society's mission is to promote and encourage the study of Bell County's history, to collect and preserve artifacts, documents, photographs and other historical materials, and to share the county's history and culture with the public.

The Bell County Historical Society is located in the old Dr. J.D. Cawood House, which was built in 1915 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building houses a library, museum and office space, and is open to the public. The library contains books, photographs and other materials related to the history of Bell County and the surrounding area. The museum features permanent and changing exhibits of artifacts related to the county’s history, and the office is home to the society’s staff and volunteers.

The Society also hosts a variety of educational and special programs and events, including lectures, workshops, symposia and guided tours. The Society also sponsors an annual Bell County History Fair, which features hands-on activities, exhibits, presentations and field trips. In addition, the Society publishes a quarterly newsletter and a yearly journal, which contain articles about Bell County’s history.

The Bell County Historical Society is a member of the Kentucky Historical Society and the American Association for State and Local History.
