Fawn at Mammoth Cave NP <b>Photographer's technical note to other photographers</b>: I used Adobe LR's new denoise function on this ISO 8000 photo, which worked like a champ. Thank you, artificial intelligence! The result has me now unworried about taking high ISO 8000 photos on this camera. Maybe even 12,000. That frees me up to concentrate more on composition. I took the image slightly underexposed, knowing I could lighten it up during post-edit. Of course, I could have decreased the ISO by decreasing the shutter speed but at a speed of 1/1000 of a second it already risked being too slow for wildlife if that fawn would so much as twitch, lurch, or jump. The aperture, of course, was already wide open at f/5.6.
Doe and her fawn There is much wildlife activity that takes place in the hardwood forests and biomes above the extensive caverns of Mammoth Caves National Park. This doe didn't give her fawn, the speckled deer, much of an opportunity to nurse. You can see the doe pulling away as soon as her fawn tries to suckle. I'm guessing the fawn is already being weaned. It grazed on foliage instead.
