The Arkansas Historical Association (AHA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the study, understanding, and appreciation of Arkansas history. Founded in 1899, the AHA is the oldest statewide historical organization in Arkansas. The Association is headquartered in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and is a member of the American Association for State and Local History.

The AHA is committed to preserving and promoting the history and heritage of Arkansas through a variety of activities, including public lectures, workshops, symposia, and other educational programs. The Association also publishes the Arkansas Historical Quarterly, a scholarly journal that has been in continuous publication since 1942. The journal is the oldest and most respected state historical journal in the United States and has been cited by the National Endowment for the Humanities as one of the best state historical journals in the nation.

In addition to its educational activities, the AHA works to preserve Arkansas’s historical resources through a variety of efforts, including the publication of books on Arkansas history, the preservation of historical sites, and the establishment of an archival repository for the preservation of documents and artifacts related to Arkansas history. The AHA also works to support the work of local historical organizations throughout the state and provides grants to support research projects related to Arkansas history.

The Association’s membership is open to everyone who is interested in Arkansas history and heritage. Membership provides access to the Arkansas Historical Quarterly, discounts on books, and other benefits. The AHA also hosts an annual conference in Fayetteville, Arkansas, which provides members with an opportunity to hear presentations from leading scholars in Arkansas history, as well as to participate in workshops and other activities.
