AERODROME FOUNDATION is a non-profit organization located in Huntsville, Alabama. It was founded in 2015 with the mission to promote and develop the use of drones for educational, recreational and commercial purposes. The organization seeks to promote safety, education and awareness of drones in their local community.

AERODROME FOUNDATION offers a variety of services and programs to promote the use of drones. They provide educational workshops, seminars, and conferences to educate the public on drone technology and how it can be applied in various fields. In addition, they offer a range of flight services, including drone demonstrations, photogrammetry, mapping, and flight instruction.

The organization also hosts events to foster community collaboration and to promote the development of drone technology. They organize fly-ins, meetings and hackathons to bring together people from the drone community in Huntsville.

AERODROME FOUNDATION is supported by private sponsors and public grants. They are also part of the Drone Coalition, a network of non-profit organizations and businesses that promote the safe use of drones. By providing a platform for collaboration and learning, AERODROME FOUNDATION is helping to make Huntsville a leader in drone technology.

Rockets Away! 2012 Student Launch Projects (NASA, Marshall, 4/22/12) Specially crafted rockets soared high into the skies April 22 at the 2011-12 NASA Student Launch Projects challenge. More than 500 students, representing 53 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in 28 states, launched rockets of their own design -- complete with working science payloads or engineering payloads -- at Bragg Farms in Toney, Ala. The students vied to see whose rocket could come closest to the 1-mile altitude goal and safely return its onboard science payload to Earth. Fifty-one teams took part, though two faced mechanical or technical issues and did not launch. Ten preliminary awards were presented, and the grand prize -- $5,000 from ATK Aerospace Group in Salt Lake City, Utah -- will be awarded May 18 after final post-flight analysis and review are complete. This is the fifth year ATK has sponsored Student Launch Projects. LAGEOS I Laser Geodynamics Satellite (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1976) The LAGEOS I, Laser Geodynamics Satellite, was launched on May 4,1976 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. The two-foot diameter, 900-pound satellite orbited the Earth from pole to pole and measured the movements of the Earth's surface relative to earthquakes, continental drift, and other geophysical phenomena. The mirrored surface of the satellite precisely reflected laser beams from ground stations for accurate ranging measurements. Scientists at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. came up with the idea for the satellite and built it at the Marshall Center.
