The Lansing Historical Society was founded in 1891 to promote the historical knowledge and understanding of the Lansing, Kansas area. The Society’s mission is to “preserve and promote the history of Lansing, Kansas, and its people.” The Society is committed to collecting, preserving, and interpreting local artifacts, photographs, documents, and other items related to Lansing’s history.

The Society operates the Lansing Historical Museum, which offers visitors a glimpse into the past. The museum houses numerous artifacts, photographs, and documents that document the history of Lansing and its people. The museum is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, and admission is free.

The Society also offers educational programs, such as lectures, workshops, and walking tours. The lectures cover topics such as Lansing’s early history, the Underground Railroad, and local businesses and industries. The workshops provide hands-on learning experiences about various topics, such as antique quilting, blacksmithing, and woodworking. The walking tours take visitors to various historical sites around Lansing, such as old cemeteries, churches, and courthouses.

The Society also hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, such as the annual Lansing Corn Festival and the Lansing Homecoming Parade. The Society also participates in community outreach programs to promote awareness of Lansing’s history.
