The mission of the organization is to celebrate the legacy of the aircraft, its crew and the history of aviation in the state of Kansas. The organization is responsible for overseeing the restoration and operation of the B-29 Superfortress, “Doc”, which is one of two remaining airworthy B-29s in the world. The organization also provides educational experiences to its visitors through interpretive displays and presentations, as well as interactive exhibits.
The organization is composed of a dedicated staff of volunteers who work collaboratively to bring Doc’s story to life. Through this work, the organization seeks to educate the public about the history of aviation in Kansas and the importance of preserving historical artifacts. Volunteers work diligently to ensure that Doc remains in pristine condition and is available to the public for tours and events.
In addition to maintaining the aircraft, DOCS FRIENDS INC also organizes various events throughout the year. These include the popular AirPower History Tour, which takes visitors on flights aboard the B-29 and provides an opportunity to learn about the history of the plane. The organization also hosts an annual fundraising gala to support its mission of preserving the legacy of the plane and preserving the history of aviation in Kansas.
