Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum is a cultural institution located in Decorah, Iowa that seeks to preserve and interpret the history of Norwegian-American immigrants and their descendants. Founded in 1877, the museum has grown to become the largest museum in the United States dedicated to Norwegian-American heritage.
The museum features a collection of over 33,000 artifacts, including folk art, textiles, tools, and household objects that reflect the traditions and customs of Norwegian immigrants. The present Cresco Theatre was built in 1915 and called the Cresco Opera House. It was where the travelling shows stopped to put on their performances between 1914 and the 1920’s.
The Opera House has been fully restored including a chandelier in the lobby and unique decorative plaster work. Residents can attend daily movies at 7:30pm Monday thru Thursday and 7:00 and 9:00pm on week ends. Matinees when warranted. They also have live performances put on by the Cresco Community Theatre.

The Cresco Opera House, also known as the Cresco Theater, is a historic building located in Cresco, Iowa, United States. The first known theater in Cresco was the Lyric Hall, which opened in 1875. It showed the first movies around 1900.[2] The Family and the Cozy theaters opened around the turn of the century. The Lyric was condemned and torn down in 1913, and the other two were considered substandard. The Cresco Commercial Club held a fundraiser in early 1914 to build an opera house. The Cresco Opera House Company was organized around the same time. The building was completed by the end of the year, and it opened in 1915. It was designed by local engineer Joseph H. Howe, and constructed by local builder Martin Johnson. The musical &quot;High Jinks&quot; was the first performance held in the theater. The theater, which seats 425, was equipped to show movies and there was a community hall in the basement.[2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.[1]](https://live.staticflickr.com/4382/36678134056_9db1e432bb_b.jpg)
