STS Peter and Paul Historical Foundation in Solon, Iowa, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1985 to preserve and protect the historic structures and artifacts that represent the rich heritage of Solon, Iowa. The Foundation owns and maintains Sts. Peter and Paul Church, the oldest Catholic church in Iowa. Built in 1859, the church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Foundation also operates the historic Solon Community School House, the oldest school building in Iowa. Built in 1860, the school house is a reconstruction of the original building, which was destroyed by fire in 1885.
The Foundation is dedicated to preserving the history of Solon and Iowa, as well as educating the public about the importance of preserving our historical sites. The Foundation operates a museum with exhibits and artifacts from the town's rich heritage. The museum also houses a research library with books, photographs, and other documents related to the history of Solon.
The Foundation hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the annual Sts. Peter and Paul Festival. The festival celebrates the history and culture of Solon and Iowa, featuring music, food, and crafts. The Foundation also sponsors educational programs and tours, allowing visitors to learn more about the history of Solon.
