John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park The John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park in located in downtown Des Moines, Iowa.

The 4.4 acre park opened in 2009 and features artwork by many artists.   

At the time of my visit, there were 28 sculptures.    

This installation is "Nomade" by Jaume Piensa.  The sculpture is 27 feet tall!    

It is a crouching figure with a skin composed of letters.

Visitors can go inside the sculpture.

The Ankeny Area Historical Society (AAHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Ankeny, Iowa and the surrounding area. Established in 1987, the AAHS’s mission is to maintain a collection of historical artifacts, photographs, and documents that tell the story of the area’s history and to educate the public through exhibitions, lectures, and other programs.

The AAHS is located in downtown Ankeny, in a former elementary school building that was built in 1904 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building houses the AAHS’s museum and research center, which features a variety of exhibits and displays about the history of Ankeny and its surrounding area. Everyone is welcome to visit the museum and research center and browse the collection of historical artifacts and documents.

In addition to the museum and research center, the AAHS also provides educational opportunities for the public. The organization offers lectures, workshops, and special events throughout the year, such as the annual History and Heritage Days, which features a variety of presentations and activities related to the area’s history. AAHS members can also access the organization’s research library, which contains a variety of books and documents related to the history of Ankeny and the surrounding area.

The AAHS is an important resource for anyone interested in learning more about the history of Ankeny and its surrounding area. Visitors to the museum and research center can explore the collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents and learn more about the area’s past. Through its educational programs, the AAHS gives members and the public the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the history of Ankeny and its surrounding area.
