Tri-State Marker - SD/MN/IA I went out late hoping to capture the aurora borealis.

Unfortunately, the forecast had been too optimistic and the lights were a no-show.

While I waited, I tried to be artistic and capture the Tri-State Marker. I used my iPhone flashlight to light up the monument while my camera did a long exposure.

I wish I could say I captured some great shots, but truthfully I didn't. In fact this crappy shot was the best out of all the photos I took that night. I tried to fix the worst of the graininess and play up the colors, but ended up with this.

The Tri-State Marker was first erected in 1859 but has undergone iterations ending with this small landmark. The precise spot where South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa meet is out in the county highways intersection just slightly south and east of the marker.

The surrounding landscape is rural, with very gently rolling hills. Farms are visible in all directions.
