The Cedar County Historical Society (CCHS) is located in Tipton, Iowa. Founded in 1962, the Society has been dedicated to the preservation of Cedar County’s history, culture and heritage. CCHS collects and preserves artifacts, documents, photographs and records relating to the history and culture of Cedar County. The Society also sponsors educational programs and activities on local history, including lectures and workshops.

The Society’s museum, located in the historic Anderson Building in downtown Tipton, houses a collection of artifacts and photographs that tell the story of Cedar County’s past. The museum also includes a genealogy room which includes resources for researching family histories. The Society also provides reference services for research requests.

CCHS also maintains an extensive archives collection which includes books, manuscripts, diaries, newspapers, oral histories and other materials related to Cedar County’s history. The Society also holds a variety of special events throughout the year, including an annual summer picnic and an annual holiday open house.

CCHS is also active in the community, working with other local organizations, such as the Tipton Public Library, to provide resources and support for local history projects. The Society is also involved in the preservation of historic sites in Cedar County, including the Cedar County Courthouse, the Tipton Carnegie Library and the Bluedorn Science Imaginarium.

CCHS is a volunteer-run organization, and volunteers are always welcome. Volunteers help the Society in a variety of ways, including cataloging artifacts, creating exhibits, assisting with research and more. For more information about CCHS and volunteer opportunities, visit the Society’s website.
